LYNNE GRAHAM
BA (Linguistics and Language Pathology); HCPC; RCSLT.
I have over 20 years experience of working as a Speech and Language Therapist in a range of settings including schools, colleges and specialist language and autism provisions in mainstream schools. Whilst I enjoy working with children of all ages, I have a passion for helping teenagers and young adults develop their communication skills. My therapy focuses on getting alongside them to find out what is important to them and incorporating these areas into a support package that their parents and school staff are involved in as well. I endeavour to pinpoint particular areas of communication that need developing and find fun and motivating ways to work on them.
As part of my work within the NHS, I have been responsible for developing and delivering training for other speech and language therapists, teachers, teaching assistants and parents. These workshops focus on raising awareness of speech, language and communication needs and enabling the delegates to use strategies to help the children they support. I have also been fortunate to attend training and conferences in many areas including Shape Coding®, Secondary Talk, Makaton, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties, Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Thinking Skills
Language and literacy skills are closely related. Having gained the OCR Level 5 Certificate in Teaching Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) I am able to offer support to develop literacy skills alongside speech and language.
